AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

If You Had a TEE with Direct-Current Cardioversion (DCCV)

Recovering from the reset — and keeping the rhythm.

After the sedation and TEE

  • Because you had sedation, do not drive for 24 hours and arrange a ride home

  • A mild sore throat from the ultrasound probe (TEE) is common for a day or two — soft foods and throat lozenges help

  • Rest for the remainder of the day; you can usually resume normal activity the next day

Keep protecting yourself

Keep taking your blood thinner exactly as prescribed — do not stop it, because it protects against stroke while the rhythm settles. The normal rhythm may not last for everyone; if a racing or irregular heartbeat returns, let us know and we will guide the next step. About cardioversion  ·  Arrhythmia treatment

When to call 911

Though uncommon, call 911 for any stroke sign (one-sided weakness, trouble speaking, vision change, facial droop) or for chest pain or severe shortness of breath.
